I like bicycles. I use them for commuting and for exercise.

Like some people I wanted to have a really nice new bicycle to show off. Everyone can see the name on the bicycle and you know what the quality is from the bike store where you purchased the bicycle.

Well, over the years, several of my really nice new bicycle have been stolen. Sad but true.

I came to the realization that I do not need a really nice bicycle. I did not use bicycles to do any special tasks like road racing, downhill racing, cross-country, distance touring, etc. However I do winter cycling. So, I started obtaining used bikes for my personal use.

When you get a used bicycle you do not always know what the quality is. Decals have been removed or the bicycle has been repainted. What is this bicycle?

I began wondering about some of by used bicycles. What is the quality? Who was the retailer? Who manufactured the frame? And many other questions.

To help me answer some of these questions I joined the local bicycle co-op. I signed up to online forums. I went on the internet to find information. I became frustrated with the amount of incorrect stories about older bicycles that was presented as true information. How do you sort out correct information from hearsay and folklore?

I began to collect information about bicycles, bicycle companies, and the bicycle industry.

I thought I should share some of the information that I discovered. Several years ago I started this website and thought that I would put out correct information about the bicycle industry mostly from the point of view of someone in western Canada. Western Canada is not a hotbed of the bicycle industry in Canada, let alone the world.

After the website was started I realized that I did not know as much as I thought I did about bicycles and the bicycle industry. I did not even know many of the Canadian bicycle manufacturers or when they were active. Much more research was required.

I posted a few things as I discovered them, but research was consuming most of my time.

Now, in the year 2023, I feel a little more confident in the research that I have done to be able to begin to add more posts to this website. I try to do my best to find correct information to post.
